# Modern web transport on AWS — transport tuning notes

Checklist for comparing HTTP/2 and HTTP/3 at the viewer and sizing origin connection pools behind CloudFront. Companion to the engineering guide.

## Usage

1. Enable HTTP/3 on CloudFront distributions serving mobile browsers; compare `time-to-first-byte` by protocol in Real-Time Logs.
2. Set ALB idle timeout ≥ client keep-alive; verify target group deregistration delay during deploys.
3. Graph app → RDS connections vs HTTP request concurrency; align pool max with peak multiplexed streams.
4. Enable RDS Proxy for connection-heavy microservices behind HTTP/2.

## What to record

- Viewer p95 by protocol (HTTP/2 vs HTTP/3) under the same loss profile.
- Origin-side p95 before and after each change.
- ALB target keep-alive and RDS Proxy pool max, before and after.
