Backend engineers, FinOps leads, and serverless architects sizing Lambda before production traffic or a Fargate migration.
Why We Built This Tool
Lambda bills on requests ($0.20/M) and GB-seconds — two meters that respond differently to memory tuning and duration changes.
What Problem It Solves
- Over-provisioned memory. Higher memory increases GB-second cost even when CPU does not need it.
- Idle provisioned concurrency. Warm capacity bills 24/7 regardless of invocations.
- Missing free tier. First 1M requests and 400K GB-s are free — but not with provisioned concurrency enabled.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where do these Lambda prices come from?
Rates are AWS published us-east-1 list prices (AWS Lambda pricing), pricing as of 2026-10-17.
Does the free tier apply to provisioned concurrency?
No. When provisioned concurrency is enabled, the free tier does not apply to requests or duration on that function.
How much does Graviton save?
arm64 functions pay $0.0000133334 per GB-second versus $0.0000166667 on x86 — a 20% discount on compute. Request pricing is identical.
Do Compute Savings Plans apply to Lambda?
Yes. Compute Savings Plans cover Lambda duration and provisioned concurrency charges. This calculator models up to 17% discount — validate your commitment level in Cost Explorer.
When does Fargate become cheaper than Lambda?
There is no universal crossover — it depends on duration and memory. For a typical 500ms/512MB API, parity is often around 5–8M requests/month. Use the Lambda vs Container calculator for side-by-side comparison.
Is ephemeral storage included?
The first 512 MB of /tmp storage is free. Additional storage bills at $0.0000000309 per GB-second of execution time.
Does Lambda get cheaper at high volume?
Yes. On-demand duration is tiered per account per Region each month: x86 drops from $0.0000166667 to $0.000015 per GB-second after 6 billion GB-seconds and to $0.0000133334 after 15 billion; arm64 drops from $0.0000133334 to $0.0000120001 after 7.5 billion and to $0.0000106667 after 18.75 billion. This calculator applies the tiers to the function you enter, so pooled usage across functions can reach them sooner.
What about Lambda Managed Instances and durable functions?
Neither is modeled here. Lambda Managed Instances run functions on EC2 instances Lambda manages: you pay $0.20 per million requests plus the EC2 instance price plus a 15% management fee, with no per-request duration charge; EC2 Savings Plans and Reserved Instances discount the instance but not the fee. Durable functions bill normal Lambda requests and duration plus $8 per million durable operations, $0.25 per GB of checkpoint data written, and $0.15 per GB-month retained.
