Explore Managed AWS Services →Who This Tool Is For
Platform and operations teams using SSM to standardize patching, command execution, and configuration management across cloud and on-prem fleets.
Why We Built This Tool
SSM looks inexpensive until advanced features scale across thousands of parameters, high-frequency API calls, and large managed fleets.
What Problem It Solves
- Parameter sprawl. Advanced Parameter Store can become a persistent recurring line item.
- Automation fan-out. Every extra branch or account run increases billable automation steps.
- Hidden hybrid cost. Since 2026-09-30, Session Manager sessions ($0.05) and Run Command invocations ($0.002) on on-prem and multicloud nodes are billed per use.
Pair this with AWS Config pricing and our managed services programs.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in this SSM calculator?
Advanced Parameter Store, advanced API interactions, Automation, OpsCenter, AppConfig, and Session Manager / Run Command usage on hybrid and multicloud nodes.
Does this include Session Manager logging and storage?
No. CloudWatch Logs/S3 storage and data transfer for session logs are excluded.
How does Standard vs Advanced Parameter Store affect cost?
Standard parameters are free at lower limits, while Advanced parameters carry per-parameter and API interaction charges.
What happened to the Advanced Instances tier?
AWS removed it on June 30, 2026 — registering hybrid and multicloud nodes no longer carries a per-instance hourly charge. From September 30, 2026, Session Manager is $0.05 per session and Run Command is $0.002 per invocation on those nodes; usage on Amazon EC2 stays free.
Are these rates region-specific?
This model is tuned for us-east-1 list rates from AWS Systems Manager pricing.
Can I use this for budget alerts?
Yes. Use the estimate as a baseline and wire it into your budget thresholds for proactive anomaly detection.
